MEET THE TUTORS

Ayanda ‘Yandass’ Ndlovu
DANCE & MOVEMENT

Her Southern African upbringing and Western training along with experience in different art forms has resulted in an urban theatrical infusion. Through a contemporary lens, performance is deconstructed, reinvented and re-imagined…

Yandass will be teaching our young dance artists a mix of House and Kwaito dance (South African and Zimbabwean) as well as working on chorography and inspiring with her incredible energy and creativity. Yandass is now a seminal figure on the Manchester and UK dance and theatre scene, with latest performance at Manchester International Festival part of ALPHABUS: FlexN & Young Identity.

Jordan Ferguson
PERCUSSION

Jordan is a percussionist, musical director and workshop facilitator based in Edinburgh. His deep love of Carnival and world music has taken him around the UK, Europe and Brazil over the last 10 years to study, teach and perform Carnival music from Brazil.

Since meeting him as a teenager through the ‘Future Leaders’ programme, over the years we have seen Jordan develop into one of the UKs premier up-and-coming percussionists in Brazilian music and other styles. Fresh back from Brazil, he’ll be bringing some amazing grooves and his trademark smily, Scottish charm.

Chris Cliff
MELODY

Chris has been playing bass forever, he loves music of all styles, from all over the world, and is really looking forward to the Jubacana Summer School.

A long-term collaborator with our director, Holly, Chris’s experience as a bass player (double and electric) and generally as a musician is incredible. We are so excited to have him with us for our summer school to borrow his astounding musical brain.

Mike Mellor
MELODY

Mike is a musician, songwriter and educator from Mossley, his main instrument is the guitar: electric and acoustics. Mike has been a long term collaborator and a key figure in Jubacana’s development in the early years. We are excited to invite him to our summer school to work with our melody players, composing something new and exciting and sharing his vast knowledge.

…His dance moves are also a thing of legend when Jubacana are performing and he is in the crowd.
